Mogadishu, Somalia 24 February, 2010 :: NASSEJ would like to host the facilitated screening and discussion “Hope in a Changing Climate” on 15th March, 2010 in Mogadishu, Somalia in collaboration with EEMP.

The National Association of Somali Science and Environmental Journalists (NASSEJ) is aiming to host the facilitated screening and discussion “Hope in a Changing Climate” on 15th March, 2010 in Mogadishu in collaboration with Environmental Education Media Project (EEMP).

Somalia, has experienced dramatic environmental shifts following two decades of insecurity and chaos in the country. The protracted crisis has led to an unsustainable use of the country’s resources. Corrupt businessmen, warlords, and other violent radical groups, with the help of external spoilers, have contributed to deforestation and depletion of Somalia wildlife resources.

The impacts of the climate change are already causing coastal erosion and Somalia is still continues to witness extreme weather events, changes in weather patterns, floods and droughts, and the vanishing of its biodiversity. Agricultural production, food security and access to water resources are being severely compromised by climate change. Human health is also impacted by the climate change.

Indeed, Sixty-five organizations on six continents, in 29 nations are already confirmed hosts for facilitated discussions and screenings of "Hope in a Changing Climate." Including NASSEJ.

Hopefully, NASSEJ would like to invite all the sectors of Somali people such as Civil Society Organizations, Elders, Religious groups, Students, Women Networks, Youth Initiatives and Policy makers.

NASSEJ would also like to do this in another regions oncoming months in order to let the Somali communities what is going on in the world and about the climate change.

It is hopped and expected that this film will do a lot for changing the endless violent behavior of Somalis and their attitudes in generally.
